2020 BMW 8 Series Review
When most people think of luxury performance vehicles, beautifully sculpted exteriors, well-appointed interiors, and powerful engines all come to mind. Well, BMW launched a new model this year and we wanted to provide the drivers of Westchester County and Yonkers, NY, with an in-depth look.
That’s why the auto experts at BMW of Westchester put together this 2020 BMW 8 Series review. If you’re currently in the market for a luxury performance coupe or sedan, continue reading to see if the 8 Series suits your lifestyle. Schedule your test drive today!
There are four distinct 8 Series models: the Coupe, Gran Coupe, Convertible, and M8 Coupe. All but the M8 trims are standardly equipped with a 3.0L BMW TwinPower Turbo 6-cylinder mated to an 8-speed Sport Automatic transmission. This setup produces up to 335 horsepower, which should be plenty for both daily commutes and long stretches of highway.
If you would like middle-of-the-road engine output—when it comes to the BMW 8 Series lineup—you can opt for the M850i xDrive in all three non-M8 trims. The all-wheel drive 4.4L BMW M Performance TwinPower Turbo V8 has the same 8-speed transmission and generates up to 523 horsepower.
Finally, the last two engines are only available in the M8 Coupe. The base model has a 600-horsepower 4.4L BMW M TwinPower Turbo V8. To get a top-tier performance machine, take the M8 Competition Coupe, which has an identical engine with a nice 17-horsepower boost.
Exterior & Interior Design Features
It’s difficult to witness the 2020 BMW 8 Series for the first time and not stop to take a look. That’s likely due, in part, to the several available and unique colorways and 18-inch V-spoke alloy wheels. Chrome-line trim further defines the windows, exhaust, and grille.
Take a seat in the 840i to experience quality Extended Merino Leather upholstery, which covers your 14-way power front sport seats. There’s also an automatic 4-zone climate control system, 2-pane panoramic moonroof, and power rear sunshade to keep any ride temperate.
Other conveniences that should make your drive more relaxed come in the form of a soft-close automatic door function, BMW Extended Ambient Lighting to enhance cabin visibility, and wireless Qi charging standard.
An Advanced Safety Suite
BMW integrated a multitude of advanced safety technologies in the 2020 8 Series to better ensure passenger safety. Back out with ease thanks to a Rear View Camera that’s linked to a 10.25-inch Central Information Display.
To keep other drivers alert of your place on the road, you’ll find Adaptive Brakelights, Programmable LED Daytime Running Lights, and Icon Adaptive LED Headlights with Laserlight. However, if an accident is imminent, the BMW Active Protection System will detect it and pre-tension seatbelts, close all windows, and apply post-crash braking to prepare or mitigate.
Another nice-to-have feature is the Impact sensor. This technology disconnects the alternator, fuel pump, and starter from the battery in the event of a collision. It will also unlock the doors and turn on hazard lights.
