The Westchester BMW Lease-end Inspection

At Westchester BMW we want to make it as convenient as possible for you to turn in your BMW when your lease term comes to an end. Therefore, a few months prior to the end of your BMW lease, we invite you to bring your car to Westchester BMW for a complete, no charge, 40-point vehicle inspection. We will thoroughly inspect your BMW, advise you on the repair of any outstanding issues, complete any included scheduled service that is due, and return your car to you fully cleaned. Your service advisor will contact you with a list of any excessive wear items (such as tires) or vehicle damage that you may be responsible for under your lease terms. The service advisor will offer you a detailed quote at a discounted rate under our lease-end service program.

To schedule an appointment for your lease-end inspection, call us at (914) 761-5555. Let the appointment coordinator know that you would like to schedule a lease-end inspection and indicate any outstanding service issues you would like us to investigate. Due to great demand for our lease-end inspection program, please allow two to three weeks for your appointment.

Clarifying the Excess Mileage Charge

One of the misconceptions about a lease is that there is a "penalty" for excess mileage. There is no "penalty", there is a contracted fee for mileage above what you have paid for throughout the term of your lease. If you had signed up initially for a higher mileage lease, then your payments would have been higher and you would have paid for the mileage already. If you had initially bought the car and were trading it in today, the current value is greatly effected by the mileage. A higher mileage car is worth less money and therefore has cost you more money. The mileage fee is a charge for miles that you have used and not yet paid for and is your obligation. Had you bought the car it may have cost you as much or more in depreciation for excess miles. Had you contracted for more miles under the lease originally, you would have paid more per month and you may not have used all the miles. Whatever the case, you are responsible for the miles that you drive the car.

Your Lease Responsibilities
Under your lease contract, you have certain obligations for the care of your BMW.  Some of the items detailed on your lease contract include:

"18.  Vehicle Maintenance.  I agree to maintain and service the Vehicle during the Lease Term as recommended in the Vehicle owner's manual.  I agree to make all needed repairs and to use genuine manufacturerÃ???Ã??Ã?¢??s replacement parts.  I will keep complete maintenance booklets and return them with the Vehicle.  If I add non-standard equipment to the Vehicle, I will return it to original manufacturers specifications before the end of the lease term.  If the non-standard equipment cannot be removed or modified without decreasing the Vehicle's value or usefulness when the Vehicle is returned to you, the equipment will become your property and I may be billed in accordance with Section 30 below.  You may inspect the Vehicle at any reasonable time."

"26. Vehicle Return.  If I do not purchase the Vehicle, I agree to return it to the place you specify with all parts and accessories and in good working order.  Upon return, I agree to complete and sign an odometer disclosure statement and a vehicle inspection report, which may be used in determining any excess wear and use and/or excess mileage."

"30. Excessive Wear and Use.  I agree to pay you the costs of all repairs to the Vehicle that are not the result of normal wear and use, whether or not you actually repair the Vehicle.  Excessive wear and use includes, but is not limited to:

(a) inoperative electrical or mechanical parts;

(b) Dented, scratched, chipped, rusted, pitted, broken or mismatched body parts, paint, vehicle identification items, trim or grill work;

(c) Non-functioning, scratched, cracked, pitted or broken glass or lights;

(d) Missing equipment, parts, accessories or adornments;

(e) Torn, damaged, burned, or stained interior;

(f) Repair of any damage that makes the Vehicle unlawful or unsafe to drive;

(g) Damage due to installation or removal of non-manufacturer, after-market or replacement parts;

(h) Damage (including damage to the engine) due to failure to maintain the vehicle in accordance with Section 18; or

(i) Serviceable tires with tread of at least 1/8" remaining at the shallowest point, all of the same grade, quantity and quality as those delivered with the Vehicle."

All terms are subject to change without notice.  For information purposes only.  Not responsible for errors or omissions.
